Martin appeared on Broadway in Little Me (Tony Award, OCC Award), The Goodbye Girl (Tony Award nomination, Theatre World Award, OCC Award, Jeffrey Jefferson Award) and in Promises, Promises (Encores!). In 2006, he returned to Broadway starring in his own one man show (even though it had a cast of four that rarely mentioned) Fame Becomes Me. In L.A., he appeared in Lawrence Kasdan's production of Four Dogs and A Bone and The Producers. In 1982, he joined the SCTV Comedy Network, where his work garnered an Emmy Award and five Emmy nominations.
On 'Saturday Night Live,' his standout performances included Ed Grimley, Jackie Rogers Jr., songwriter Irving Cohen and lawyer Nathan Thrum. He co-wrote and produced and starred in four acclaimed television comedy specials; 'Martin Short's Concert for the North America' (Ace Award); 'Martin Short, Goes Hollywood' (Ace Award); 'The Show Formerly Known As the Martin Short Show (Emmy Award) and 'Martin Short Goes Home.'
He co-starred in the miniseries 'Merlin' (Emmy nomination) and 'Alice in Wonderland.' He hosted the daily 'The Martin Short Show' (2 Emmy nominations) and co-wrote, produced and starred as star-interviewer extraordinaire Jiminy Glick in 'Primetime Glick' (Emmy nomination). More recently, he co-starred with Glenn Close in 'Damages' Emmy nomination), 'Cat in the Hat' (Emmy nomination) and this season's 'Mulaney'. He also won an Emmy for 'AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Mel Brooks.'
Short made the jump to the big screen in 1986 with Three Amigos and Innerspace. Among the 30 films he has made are Three Fugitives, The Big Picture, Clifford, Father of the Bride (1 and 2), Mars Attacks, Jiminy Glick in La La Wood, and Inherent Vice. In 1994, he was awarded Canada's highest civilian honor, the Order of Canada. Mr. Short worships and adores his three children Katherine, Oliver and Henry.
