Broadway actress-singer, MAC and Bistro Award winner, Raissa Katona Bennett, returns to the cabaret stage with her celebration of the Great American Songbook in Can't Help Singing-The Music of Jerome Kern. The show plays Friday, November 1st at 7 pm and Saturday, November 2nd at 8pm at Don't Tell Mama. Pianist, Mark Berman ('The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'), joins the singer as Musical Director, with Tom Hubbard on bass.

Kalevala The Musical is a story of ancient legends, told by the spirits of the haunted forest of Kalevala. Passed down from generation to generation, these tales were collected in a book of poems by Elias Lonnrot in 1835, widely cherished across the world. Kalevala has been a source of inspiration to many fantasy authors, including J.R.R. Tolkien.

Musical theater actor and Award-winning New York Cabaret performer Rosemary Loar is bringing her original musical SPOOLIE GIRL to the Actors Temple Theatre (339 W 47th St, New York) for a nine-show run from October 17-27. Loar, who wrote the music and lyrics, and co-wrote the book with her late husband Robert Atwood, calls the show “a family-friendly fractured rock fairy tale.” SPOOLIE GIRL is a suddenly orphaned eco-friendly teenager from Kenya who comes to New York City. Wearing magical curlers called “spoolies” in her hair, she is able to read people's thoughts as songs, while navigating a world consisting of her narcissistic, fashionista Aunt, a Fairy Godmother (but way hipper), and a quirky neighbor who walks an invisible dog. And that's her support group. Along with Loar, the cast features Loar, Claire Lilley, and Michiko Sasaki.

Gianni Valenti, the music world's gift to New York City, has created another venue for the performing arts. Jim Caruso made it official last night as he introduced Lucie Arnaz, who with her longtime friend and music director Ron Abel thrilled a celebrity filled opening night audience.

It was January 25 2011 and Raissa Katona Bennett brought her new show, exploring the music of Jerome Kern to Feinstein's at The Regency Hotel. It got rave reviews from the critics at that time. KALEVALA The Musical is a story of ancient legends told by the spirits of the haunted forest of Kalevala. The musical is adapted from materials of the national epic poem of Finland. Among others, the author of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit, J.R.R.Tolkien has acknowledged the direct influence of Kalevala in his works. The story has been set to an ethereal yet powerful pop, folk, and world music score written by Johanna Telander. The concert will feature performances from composer Johanna Telander, Raissa Katona Bennett (The Phantom of the Opera), Omer Shaish (Radio City Christmas Spectacular), and acclaimed Finnish actress Reeta Vestman, along with Mary Baron, Nicole Corris, Kelly Delaveris, Jennifer Hiemstra, Natsuko Hirano, Markus Kaitila, John Koski, Kristi Roosmaa, Catrina Teruel, and Amanda Yachechak. The band includes David Fletcher, Carol Ma, Arei Sekiguchi, and Christopher Telander, with musical direction by Sean Ferguson.

Maija Anttila with Soulgaze Films presents a concert performance featuring samples from an upcoming production of KALEVALA the Musical, composed by Johanna Telander. The concert, which will take place January 6th, 2018 at 7pm at St. Peter's Episcopal Church (346 W 20th St. New York, NY 10011), is an introduction to the music from KALEVALA the Musical. An official staged reading will follow in the spring of 2018.
