Marilyn doesn't have to sing "I Love Being Here With You" in New York City anymore. She always would motion for a response after the lyric "I wanna hear you call my name" and the audience would always shout out MARILYN. That song was not in her show. There's no need for MM to ask for recognition in this town. If you don't know that MARILYN means Marilyn Maye you are not a New Yorker. Personally, if I ask someone "when are you seeing Marilyn" and then get a confused look, I immediately know I'm talking to someone who doesn't get it.

By popular demand, the Broadway at Birdland concert series just featured singer/actor Erich Bergen, who made his solo Birdland debut last night, December 29. BroadwayWorld was there for the special night and you can check out more coverage below!

The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, continues to be home court for Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch. They are back at Bemelmans Bar for an extended Sunday night residency. The performances build upon their recent run of shows in the intimate, storied New York City lounge, favorites not only of music fans and critics, but also of fellow artists. Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch shows are a place where some of the city's foremost entertainers go to commune with their own-and sometimes sit-in for a song or two-on their nights off. The pair will be at Bemelmans with their evening of swinging standards Sunday nights, through Dec. 31st. Dropping in Sunday night were Ron Abel and Chuck Steffan creators of 'Hazel' a new musical bound for Broadway. Jane Monheit joined Billy & Jim for some great vocals as Giselle Wolf and Eda Sorokoff looked on approvingly

Wetrock Entertainment presented performer/writer/jazz vocalist Andrea Frierson in 'me & ella,' at 54 Below last night. "me & ella," is a musical journey back to the beginnings of a young singer enamored with Ella Fitzgerald, set against a backdrop of New York City in the 1960's. Part memory play and part tribute, 'me & ella' is both a singer's coming of age story, as well as a valentine to the First Lady of Song. Written and performed by Ms. Frierson with musical arrangements and musical supervision by Ron Abel and direction by Murphy Cross and Paul Kreppel, 'me & ella'

The 25th New York Cabaret Convention continues and BroadwayWorld was once again there! The 3rd segment featured hosted by Andrea Marcovicci and Jeff Harnar featured performances by Andrea Marcovicci, Jeff Harnar, Gabrielli, Anthony Nunziata, Rita Gardner, Brent Barrett, Anna Bergman, Richard Holbrook, Jeffifer Sheehan, Carole J. Bufford, Christine Andreas, Billy Stritch, Jim Caruso, Sally Mayes, Iris Williams, Eric Comstock, Barbara Fasano, Karen Akers, and Natalie Douglas.

The Friars were a mens only club until 1988. Last night some great women Friars entertained their fellow members in the newly named Jerry Lewis Monastery.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present a Very Special Jamie deRoy & friends on Monday, September 22 at 7pm. The one-night-only event benefited the Actors Fund.

Just last night, award-winning cabaret performer Jamie deRoy celebrated Broadway with a roster of Tony Award winners on her Multi MAC award-winning Variety Show, Jamie deRoy & friends, at New York's wonderfully-appointed cabaret The Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street ~ btw. 5th & 6th Avenues).

As the daughter of one of show business' most prominent couples, Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz, Emmy Award-winning singer/actress Lucie Arnaz has forged a distinct career of her own. She has had starring roles on Broadway, television and film, and has won awards including an Emmy, a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award. She brings her new show, Spring is Here, to The Carlyle for a limited five-night engagement, through April 19.

Following her acclaimed concert 'Catch the Light,' 54 Below just featured a new show featuring the stunning Michele Lee making a rare appearance in New York. Ms. Lee's new concert boasted an eclectic songbook, with classics she popularized as well songs from those magical composers, lyricists, and artists with whom she has worked and shared stages in every medium. New York's wonderfully-appointed cabaret hot-spot The Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street ~ btw. 5th & 6th Avenues) kicked off the fall season on the first evening of Autumn with celebrated cabaret performer Jamie deRoy for a special edition of her Multi MAC award-winning Variety Show, Jamie deRoy & friends, last night.

Maye performed a special one-night-only engagement at The Iridium on July 10. 'Maye Takes Five,' presented by The Iridium and ScoBar Entertainment, featured her trio (pianist/musical director Tedd Firth, bassist Tom Hubbard and drummer Ray Marchica) plus special guests including renowned clarinetist Ken Peplowski and noted trumpet man Brian Pareschi. Giselle Wolf Journeys: A Celebration has been invited back for a Special Return Engagement at the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, NYC for the New Year. The additional performances are: tonight, January 17th & Friday, January 18th as well as Sunday, February 3rd and Monday, February 4th, 2013 at 9:30 pm. The musical direction and arrangements for the trio are by Ron Abel, and it is directed and developed with Karen Ludwig.
