Equity actors for roles in the touring production of PARADE (see breakdown).

PREPARATION

Please self-tape a brief musical theatre song in the style of Jason Robert Brown that shows range. Please provide your own

accompaniment. As an alternative to singing a song of choice, you may sing an excerpt from “The Old Red Hills of Home” from PARADE. Please choose the vocal part you’re most comfortable with: Soprano 1, Mezzo, Alto, Tenor 1, Tenor 2, or Baritone. Sheet music, accompaniment track, and plunk tracks may be found at this link:

After members' submissions have been viewed, the employer will notify each member who viewed their audition.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

SEEKING:

[LUCILLE FRANK] Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 20s, Caucasian. Jewish woman from Georgia who is married to Leo Frank. Gentle and mousy, but resourceful and resilient. Despite her husband’s feelings, she is a true Southerner through and through but can see through the deception. Mezzo, Low A—D.

[JIM CONLEY] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nobinary), 20s–30s, Black. Janitor who works for Leo Frank at the National Pencil Factory. Secretly, he is a convict on the run. Pompous showman with a strong build. Tenor, Low D—High Bb.

[GOVERNOR JACK SLATON] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 40s–50s, Caucasian. As the Governor of Georgia, he is highly concerned with public perception. Flirtatious and fun at times. Strives to maintain his values. Bari-Tenor, Low C—High G.

[HUGH DORSEY] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 30s–40s, Caucasian. Atlanta’s District Attorney. He is a devout Christian, who is brute and manipulative at times. Hungry for political success and recognition. Baritone/Bass.

[OLD SOLDIER/JUDGE ROAN] Characters are male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 50s—60s, Caucasian. OLD SOLDIER: The old man who was formerly the young confederate soldier. JUDGE ROAN: Serves as the Judge in the Leo Frank case. Motivated by bigotry and racism, he is dangerously committed to the ideals of the Confederacy. Bari-Tenor, Low C—High G.

[BRITT CRAIG] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 20s—30s, Caucasian. Down-on his-luck newspaperman whose career is revived by the Leo Frank trial. Tenor, Low D—High A.

[TOM WATSON] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 30s—40s, Caucasian. Conservative politician and publisher who helps to spur on the witch-hunt for Leo Frank. Baritone/Bass.

[FRANKIE EPPS] Male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 18+, Caucasian. Mary Phagan’s devoted teenage friend. Charming, simple, playful, and flirtatious. Tenor, Low Bb—High Ab.

[MRS. PHAGAN] Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 30s—40s, Caucasian. Mary Phagan’s mother. Alto, Low F#—Bb. NOTE: Possible understudy for LUCILLE FRANK (Jewish woman from Georgia who is married to Leo Frank. Gentle and mousy, but resourceful and resilient. Despite her husband’s feelings, she is a true Southerner through and through but can see through the deception. Mezzo, Low A—D).

Northern Jewish man who runs the National Pencil Factory and is falsely accused of the rape and murder of Mary Phagan. He is neurotic and a serial pessimist. Though married to Lucille, he is physically and emotionally displaced. Bari-Tenor, Low G—High G.

[MARY PHAGAN] CAST Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 18+, Caucasian. Young teenage factory worker at the National Pencil Factory who is murdered. She is very innocent but has moments of sassiness and playfulness. Mezzo, D—D.

[SALLY SLATON] CAST Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 30s—40s, Caucasian. Governor Slaton’s wife. Any voice part.

[MINNIE MCKNIGHT] CAST Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 30s–40s, Black. Leo and Lucille Frank’s maid. Mezzo.
