The Carol Channing - Harry Kullijian Foundation for The Arts, whose objective is to promote arts education through public awareness, community involvement and increased support of public schools, is sponsoring "Voice Of the Valley" - a seven-week cabaret open mic competition. It begins on July 17th and will culminate September 4th with a final sing-off when the winning singer is cast in "A Magical Night On Broadway" at THE SHOW on September 8th with a list of Broadway's 'Who's Who' and hosted by Joanne Worley.
Ms. Worley is a veteran of the musical theater stage and her years on televisions "Rowan And Martin's Laugh In," which launched her career, and others such as Lily Tomlin, Goldie Hawn, Ruth Buzzi, Henry Gibson, Arte Johnson and many more.
"Voice Of The Valley" is the concept of the Foundation's Executive Director, David Green who worked with Les Michaels from Life Is A Cabaret to help develop the format and rules. Les has hosted cabaret open mic nights for ten years in Palm Springs and Los Angeles and will share hosting duties with Mr. Green. Pianist Joel Baker is the musical director for the competition and open mic that follows and runs seven Tuesday nights at 7:30 PM in The Lounge at Agua Caliente Resort.
The pre-qualified singers (21 and over only) will perform before a panel of judges including Joey English, Patrick Evans and David Green plus one guest judge from stage, TV, film, or cabaret. Singers wishing to enter should first sing at the open mic at 9 PM that is also open to singers who just want to sing for fun.
