On Monday, February 25, the Broadway at Birdland series
welcomed composer/performer Victoria Shaw and her celebrated showcase "Under
The Covers With Victoria Shaw."
The round-robin for composers has become a recurring
highlight, which features a wide variety of top-selling songwriters and musical
acts from across the pop, rock and country worlds, offering intimate acoustic
performances of huge hit songs - along with the little-known stories behind
them.
Taking part in Monday's show were Richie McDonald (the voice
and most recognizable face for the platinum-selling supergroup Lonestar),
Marcus Hummon (wrote "Bless The Broken Road," "Ready To
Run," "Cowboy Take Me Away"), Jim Brickman
("Valentine"), Mark Hudson ("Livin' On The Edge"), and
Julie Gold ("From A Distance").
Also performing some of the original material were Lari
White (Ring of Fire), Meryl Dandridge (Tarzan) and Caroline
Cutbirth. The following Jim Caruso's Cast Party was packed with
performances by Brent Barrett (Vegas Phantom), Paige Davis (Chicago
& "Trading Spaces"), Douglas Wilson ("Trading Spaces"),
who sang for an equally star-studded crowd that included Sunday in the Park
With George stars Jenna Russell and Alexander Gemignani.
The
Cast Party follows the critically-heralded Monday night concerts of
Broadway at Birdland. Birdland is located at 315 West 44th Street,
between 8th & 9th Aves. For information visit www.BirdlandJazz.com
