NYTB in the D Lounge Features Vincent, Justman, et al., 1/31

New York Theatre Barn in the D-Lounge, now in its 4th year, is a monthly event that was creaTed May of 2007 in the D-Lounge at the Daryl Roth Theatre. The series transferred to The Duplex in the West Village in January of 2008 and returned to the D-Lounge in January of 2010.

NYTB in the D-Lounge takes place on the last Monday of every month and is a platform for emerging songwriters and performers. The series fuses two contrasting writers (or writing teams) to create an eclectic evening of music and theatre. The evening is not only a celebration of new work, as we wish to further engage our audience by encouraging networking between the artists involved and the people who attend the event. We often feature selections from our current projects in development between sets. The social event is casual and fun, however expectations and ambitions are high. It is New York Theatre Barn's continued mission to serve emerging artists and to investigate, develop and advance new work.

Meet the Double-Threat Trio: three unfortunate performers who can't master their third skill to save their lives. Meet a starry-eyed young girl who wants to be a clinically insane Scottish murderess when she grows up. Meet the grandson from Dirty Dancing (you know, the one with "two hotels") and find out what he REALLY wants to say to the Jennifer Grey character. Meet other people too. Oh, you don't know them? YOU SHOULD.

They'll be played by the likes of Elena Shaddow (La Cage Aux Folles), Amy Justman (Company), Amanda(The Importance of Being Earnest), Michael Lluberes (Dirty Dancing), Aspen Vincent  (American Idiot), Jaclyn Huberman (I Love You Because), & Adam (The Light in the Piazza) himself.

Under the direction of Joe Barros (Producing Artistic Director) and JuliAnne Alberty (Executive Director), New York Theatre Barn is a non-profit theatre company dedicated to investigation, development advancement of new works. New York Theatre Barn is currently developing an original commission- Speargrove Presents, a new musical based on actual events surrounding a conservative Texas high school's planned production of the musical Rent. In the spring, NYTB will partner with Prospect Theatre Company on a production of the new musical I Married Wyatt Earp (book by Thomas Edward West & Sheilah Rae, Music by Michele Brourman, Lyrics by Sheilah Rae), an all-female musical about Josie Marcus Earp, the wife of legendary frontier lawman Wyatt Earp, and the pioneer women of Tombstone, AZ.

Productions have included Wood at the New York Musical Theatre Feastival with Tony Award winner Cady Huffman, the musical parody Hey, You Know What Movie Would Make A Good Musical? at the Julia Miles Theatre, and Bridget Bailey's one woman play Child of Hungry Times, winner of Outstanding Production of a Solo Show (Planet Connections Theatre Festival). Since its inception in 2007, NYTB has introduced a monthly platform for emerging writers and performers at the Daryl Roth D-Lounge, in addition to presenting staged readings of new musicals and plays - including the musical Big Fat Cat with Bruce Vilanch and I Married Wyatt Earp with Tovah Feldshuh, directed by Graciela Daniele. NYTB has grown into a vital force in the New York theatre scene where it has been a launching ground for challenging new work including Adam Gwon's Ordinary Days (regional and international productions, including the Roundabout Theatre Company), Cait Doyle's MAC Award winning tour de force Hot Mess In, Katie Thompson's R.R.R.E.D. and Bobby Cronin's Welcome to My Life (formerly B.R.A.T.T).
