Direct from the 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and London's Leicester Square Theatre, Mickey & Judy, created by and starring Canadian actor/vocalist Michael Hughes, makes its New York City debut at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre, September 10th, 15th, and 20th.

A 2012 Canadian Comedy Award nominee and smash hit of the 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival, Mickey & Judy is a hilarious one-man musical memoir that chronicles Hughes' childhood obsession with musicals and his journey from psychiatric ward to off-Broadway.

Chockfull of comic anecdotes about a childhood spent cross-dressing and channeling Judy Garland, dramatic readings from his medical notes and a musical score that borrows from Broadway classics and the Judy Garland songbook, Mickey & Judy is about learning to accept who you are and following your dreams.

Mickey & Judy garnered rave five-star reviews and sell-out houses when it received its world premiere at the 2011 Toronto Fringe. It has been named Best of Fringe, Critic's Pick--Toronto Star and NOW Magazine, and Outstanding Production and Outstanding Performance by NOW Magazine. It was also nominated for awards from Broadway World (Best Independent Theatre Production) and Entertainment World (Best Fringe Actor). For its run at the 2012 Edinburgh Festival, Mickey & Judy was named one of the HOT 100 of the Festival (out of 2696 shows), Editor's Pick -– SGFringe Magazine (Scotland) and Gay Times Magazine (UK), and was nominated for an MTM:UK award for Best Production of an Existing Work (alongside Anthony Rapp's Without You, Re-Animator: The Musical).

Hughes is a sought-after concert and cabaret performer in Canada. His 2009 self-titled debut album was nominated for a Toronto Independent Music Award and was a TWISI Award Winner for Best Album and People's Choice Best Album. The same year, he was featured on 16-time Grammy winner and 3-time Oscar nominee David Foster's prestigious David Foster & Friends concert on its sell-out tour of North America.

Now he prepares to win over new fans when he makes his NYC debut with his own, highly personal cabaret. As he describes it, "Mickey & Judy is about a little boy named Mickey who wanted to grow up to be Judy Garland – but settled for Michael Hughes."
