ITSNOTYOUITSME / DANNY HOLT

Monday, February 1 at 7:00 PM

itsnotyouitsme has opened for Stars of the Lid and Collections of Colonies of Bees. They have collaborated with So Percussion, 5707, Rob Schwimmer and Michel Gondry. Festivals included the Berkshire Fringe Festival, Bang on a Can Summer Festival, CMJ, Wordless Music Festival and they have been featured on NPR, WNYC, WFMU and newmusicbox.org. Their first album, "Walled Gardens" received much critical acclaim. The New York Times's Allan Kozinn declared this "meltingly beautiful" disc one of the Best CDs of 2008. itsnotyouitsme is currently working on a new album as well as music for a documentary by Ellen Weissbrod about the life of painter Artemisia Gentileschi.

Called "the classical music equivalent of an extreme sports athlete" (The Record), and named as one of the "local heroes" of L.A.'s music scene by LA City Beat, pianist Danny Holt is known for his virtuosic no-holds-barred style. His Fast Jump CD was produced by Mike Garson (pianist for David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, etc.) and was a featured new release on both WNYC and iTunes in 2009. A passionate advocate for new music, Holt has worked with such composers as Steve Reich, Louis Andriessen, David Lang, and Michael Gordon, and he has been a fellow at the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall and the Bang on a Can Summer Music Institute. In Los Angeles he performs with the L.A. Philharmonic, Jacaranda, The California EAR Unit and other contemporary music ensembles. "If his upcoming concert of classical music was met by a mosh pit, pianist Danny Holt wouldn't mind at all." (Daily Hampshire Gazette) $15

THE Madison Square GardenERS WITH SPECIAL GUEST JULIA HALTIGAN

Monday, February 1 at 9:30 PM

Brooklyn, NY based band the Madison Square Gardeners play "sing along song" rock 'n' roll. Claiming The Heartbreakers: both Petty and Thunders as their musical road map, the band has a powerful and exciting live show that has earned them support slots for the likes of The New York Dolls, Black Joe Lewis and The Honey Bears and even Southern Rock legends, Drivin' N' Cryin'. The bands acclaimed debut album "Don't Name The Pig" featured the song "My Ex-Girlfriend" which the Examiner.com named it's Number 1 Song Of The Year for 2009. The band's latest EP "Tune It Up, Dime It Out" was released during their most recent tour centered around a performance at The Warren Haynes X-Mas Jam as well as their triumphant homecoming show at the legendary Bowery Ballroom. It should be noted that this band is no stranger to Joe's Pub, having played there several times as the backing band for their good friend and one of their musical heroes, Jill Sobule.

CYRO BAPTISTA'S BANQUET OF THE SPIRITS

Tuesday, February 2 at 7:30 PM

Banquet of the Spirits features the tight quartet led by maestro Cyro Baptista-the percussionist who has performed with everyone from Herbie Hancock and Yo-Yo Ma to Laurie Anderson, John Zorn, Paul Simon, Sting, Medeski Martin and Wood, Trey Anastasio and so many more. Cyro's endless sonic curiosity and intense rhythmic drive has never been stronger in these imaginative original songs. Featuring three of the best young musicians out of the downtown scene and some very special guests, the music jumps from a whisper to a scream and never misses a beat.

The quartet embodies the philosophy of Anthropofagia, a Brazilian cultural movement from the 1920's. The band, is a musical manifestation of the process of eating, swallowing, and digesting all the tendencies that are part of the sonic landscape and our environment. The music is the product of all sounds that they have collectively consumed over the years; some of them they've digested and others they have rejected. After that, it has been difficult to identify what belongs to what country, culture, or religion. $15

SOUL CYCLE

Tuesday, February 2 at 9:30 PM

Soul Cycle brings an infectious blend of jazz, funk, and world music to Mosaic, their eagerly awaited third release. Featuring guest vocals from Rogiérs as well as the core lineup of keyboardist Jesse Fischer, saxophonist Brian Hogans, bassist Josh David, drummer Corey Rawls, and percussionist Shawn Banks, Mosaic captures the intimate energy of a live performance, resulting in honest music that ranges broadly from contemplative to joyous, from searching to playful. Overflowing with memorable compositions, dynamic group interplay, and raw soul, Mosaic is a bold statement in support of real music. $12
