Joe's Pub Announces Performances For 3/4-3/9

After serving in the Peace Corps, Daniel Martin Moore won over Sub Pop Records in 2007 with an unsolicited demo of deceptively simple songs, and found himself working with producer Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, U2, The Shins) on his first album, the 2008 release Stray Age. With Stray Age, Daniel became a critical darling, eliciting comparisons from Nick Drake to M. Ward.

Mountaintop removal is a radical form of surface mining that uses massive explosives to blast off several hundred feet of mountaintop in order to expose and remove thin seams of coal. The resulting rubble, or overburden, is then pushed into nearby valleys, burying streams. This has devastating impacts on the land, air and water of local communities. To date, this practice has destroyed more than 500 mountains and buried more than 2000 miles of streams.

Appalachian Voices created iLoveMountains.org in conjunction with local, state, and regional partners to grow and support the national movement to end mountaintop removal coal mining and help create a prosperous future for the region.

Learn more at: www.ilovemountains.org or www.subpop.com. Tickets are $20.

Murray Hill OSCAR PARTY

w/ Special Guests feat. Oscar Ballots, Trivia, Prizes, and Audience Best & Worst Dressed Awards

Sunday, March 7 at 7:00 PM

Celebrate the most glamorous night in Hollywood with Murray Hill "the hardest working middle-aged man in show business" as he hosts his 9th Annual OSCAR Party in NYC at Joe's Pub. Murray will be joined by special guests who will re-enact favorite scenes from this year's nominated films and liven up the evening when the boring tributes go on...and on...and on....

In what has become a downtown Oscar tradition, Murray provides his infamous running commentary during commercial breaks and leaves no star behind with his barbed wit and one-liners. The evening will feature impromptu performances, impersonations of the nominated stars, movie spoofs, movie trivia games and lots of prizes, including a grand prize to the Winner of the OSCAR PREDICTION BALLOT! Ballots will be handed out before the show. The audience will compete for "Best" and "Worst" Dressed. Audience is encouraged to dress like their favorite celebrity for the chance to win fabulous silly prizes.

The evening of pure "showbiz" begins at 7:00 pm with Oscar Pre-Show Red Carpet and continues with the complete Oscar telecast at 8:00 pm shown on a giant screen. Oscar drink specials and full dinner available all night. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

THE TONICS

Sunday, February 28, and Monday March 8 at 7:00 PM

The tonics (Cortes Alexander, Michael Patrick Coughlin, Gene Reed, and newest member, Kathie Talbot) are an acclaimed Los Angeles based vocal quartet. Reuniting after 15 years, they are thrilled once again to share their unique sound and intricate harmonies. Their eclectic repertoire includes everything from Stephen Sondheim to Stevie Wonder, along with original songs, all with their distinct stamp.

In the 90's, they dominated the NYC/LA club scene garnering rave reviews and awards along the way.

They have sung on many stages, from NYC's Carnegie Hall (by request of Sondheim in the Emmy-nominated PBS special honoring him) and Lincoln Center, to LA's Wiltern and Gibson Amphitheatre (opening number of comic relief VII). Other television appearances include the Rosie O'Donnell Show and Good Morning America.

The foursome have given their time and talent to many causes over the years, such as the S.T.A.G.E. Benefits for Apla, La Shanti Foundation, the LA Gay and Lesbian Center, and the March of Dimes Telethon.

Individually, they never stopped performing.

Cortes was in the tony-award winning "Liza's at the Palace". His solo CD "Swell" is available on iTunes.

Michael is a songwriter performing in clubs all over LA. His songs can be heard on myspace.com.

Gene is a member of the Dan Band, touring to sold-out crowds across the country and can be seen the motion picture "Old School". The group is a recurring guest on the new Jay Leno Show.

Kathie is a well respected film/TV composer and music producer. Her music/voice can be heard on "Ugly Betty", "CSI", "Burn Notice", and "The Mentalist". Presented in association with RJ Productions. Tickets are $25.

MEL FLANNERY TRUCKING CO.: CD RELEASE / THE MUMBLES

Tuesday, March 9 at 7:00 PM

"Wherever you go for the rest of your life, her song will stay with you, for Mel Flannery is a moveable feast." - Eugene Melino, New Sun Newspaper

With a monstrous voice and organic sound, Brooklyn-based Mel Flannery Trucking Co. offers an experience unlike any other indie band today. MFTC is an exercise in balance; blending complexity & accessibility, heartbreak & humor, wisdom & youth. Experience their envelope-pushing avant-soul sound live to celebrate the release of As It Turns Out on Halogen Records.

The Mumbles are a Brooklyn, NY based Avant Soul Duo -- a tiny band with a mighty sound. Using two keyboards and a drum kit, they combine soul music with avant and old time jazz to create "pop songs in the key of partying down" (Time Out New York). Keysman Keith Burnstein and drummer Ethan Shorter met in the rhythm section of a 14 piece hip hop orchestra, soon striking out on their own in late 2006 to write tunes that would become Mumbles mainstays. As a duo, the boys distilled songs to their essence, delighting in a dynamic that "...marries the bedroom intimacy of a singer-songwriter, with the expansive musical prowess of a psych jazz outfit" (Seven Days Vermont). Tickets are $12.
