The Judy Show, (www.JudyGold.com) a new comedy starring Judy Gold, will play The DR2 Theatre, (103 E 15th Street, just east of Union Square) beginning June 30th with the official opening scheduled for July 7th, it was announced today by producers Daryl Roth and Eva Price.
Building on the success of her show 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, funny-woman Judy Gold returns to the stage in this hilarious look at her life through the lens of the classic sitcoms of her youth. With multimedia, original music, laughter, and love, Judy shows us how she balances family and ambition with a little help from our favorite TV shows of the Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties.
The Judy Show is written by Judy Gold and Kate Moira Ryan (25 Questions for a Jewish Mother) and features original music by Judy Gold and lyrics by Kate Moira Ryan and Judy Gold. Additional Material is by Eric Kornfeld and Bob Smith.
Directed by Amanda Charlton (Caroline in Jersey, Dissonance), The Judy Show will have scenic and projection design by Andrew Boyce (The People In The Picture, Twelfth Night), lighting design by Joshua Scherr and sound design by Alex Neumann (Driving Miss Daisy, Next Fall).
"The Judy Show would be the name of my TV show if I had one, but I don't. Why? Maybe it's because I'm a 6'3" inch lesbian comedian raising my 2 sons in a 900 square foot apartment with one bathroom on the upper west side," said Judy Gold. "I can tell you it's definitely not for my lack of trying. My desire for my own sitcom began as a little girl - I spent hours lying on my belly on the shag carpeting getting lost in the world of the 70's sitcom. All I wanted to do was run away to the Brady house, The Partridge Family bus, even the project on "Good Times" seemed better than Clark, NJ. Maybe it was because "Good Times" was a spin-off of "Maude" which was a spin-off of "All In The Family" - which were all spin-offs of Norman Lear's brain. Whatever it was I thought it was DYNOMITE!"

Judy Gold (performer/writer) Emmy Award winning actress and comedian, Judy Gold is best known as the star of the critically acclaimed long-running Off Broadway hit show 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, for which she was nominated for a 2006 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. In addition, the show won the 2007 GLAAD award for "Outstanding New York Theater." A book based on the show was nominated for the prestigious Quill Award.
Most recently, Judy has been in the cast of Nora & Delia Ephron's Off-Broadway play, Love, Loss and What I Wore. Gold can be seen regularly on Tru TV Presents World's Dumbest. She has guest-hosted ABC's The View - where she has appeared numerous times, and appears regularly on The Joy Behar Show on HLN. Judy hosted a weekly radio show on Sirus/XM called Hatched By Two Chicks. She is the host of iViillage.com's Your Kid Did What? Judy recently appeared on The Dr. Oz Show and The Wendy Williams Show and will be starring in an episode of A&E's "The Glades" this summer. She was the host of HBO's At the Multiplex with Judy Gold from 1999 - 2009, and Judy also hosted Comedy Central's100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time and the GLAAD Media Awards, which aired on LOGO and VH1. Her TV specials include a half-hour comedy special for LOGO and the HBO documentary, All Aboard, for which she is featured. Her stand-up specials include Comedy Central Presents: Judy Gold, Comedy Central's Tough Crowd Stands Up, and Judy's HBO half-hour special, which received a Cable Ace Award. Gold was seen in the smash hit film The Aristocrats and the documentaries Making Trouble and I am Comic.
Gold won two Emmy Awards for writing and producing The Rosie O'Donnell Show. She was nominated twice for The American Comedy Award's funniest female stand-up. Judy has written for Wondertime Magazine, Momlogic.com and The Advocate. She has also appeared on Ugly Betty, Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, Hollywood Squares, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Conan O'Brien Show to name a few. Gold lives in New York City with her two children. She frequently tours theatres and Comedy Clubs around the country. Her CD, Judith's Roommate Had a Baby is currently available.
