Carly Jibson, Jared Gertner, and More Set For NYTB In The D-Lounge 10/25

Carly_Jibson_Jared_Gertner_and_More_Set_For_NYTB_In_The_DLounge_20010101

On Monday, October 25th, New York Theatre Barn will present its monthly showcase for emerging writers and performers at the D-Lounge at the Daryl Roth Theater, which will feature the music of Timothy Huang and duo Eli Bolin and Sam Forman as well as performances from Broadway's Carly Jibson (Cry Baby, Hairspray) and Jared Gertner (Spelling Bee). Executive Producers for NYTB in the D-Lounge are Laura Brandel and Karen Marshall.

The first set of the evening, Timothy Huang: Chinese or Crazy? will features music & lyrics by Timothy Huang, additional lyrics and direction by Marlo Hunter, and musical Direction by Mark Evans. With performances from Sarah Corey (Illyria), Jen Blood (Falling for Eve), Piper Goodeve, Andrew Kober (Hair), KendAl Sparks (Les Miserables at MUNY) & Jared Gertner (Spelling Bee). Timothy Huang: Composer. Lyricist. Asian dude. What do you get when you cross Billy Joel, Billy Finn and Billy Dee Williams, and then feed it excessive amounts of Shrimp Fly Lice? The answer is "Oh dear God, what is that thing get it away from the kids! Where is Timothy Huang when we really need him?" And the answer to that answer would be: Right here, ladies. Not unlike Justin Bieber, Timothy Huang's music has been known to make young children cry. Or maybe it was the clown suit. No one really knows. What they are pretty sure of is that he is most definitely probably Chinese. And that he most definitely probably got a masters in musical theater writing. And that he most definitely probably was voted most likely to say anything in high school. Maybe. Timothy Huang: Chinese or Crazy? You decide.

The second set will be Love On Wheels: The Bolin/Forman Songbook featuring music by Eli Bolin and lyrics by Sam Forman with performances from Jared Gertner (Spelling Bee), Carly Jibson (Hairspray, Cry Baby), Allison Jill Posner, and Shaina Taub. If Barry Gibb and Harry Nilsson somehow got Bill Finn pregnant (and don't think they haven't tried), their song-babies might sound an awful lot like the ones of Eli Bolin and Sam Forman (authors of the off-Broadway musical I Sing!). Friends and collaborators for the last 14 years, musical theater's silliest, smartest lapsed Jews present a selection of tunes drawing heavily from their most recent projects, including the new musicals Volleygirls and Roller Boogie (an adaptation of the cult classic Linda Blair roller disco movie). Love On Wheels will make you laugh till you cry, with peanut-butter-sticky melodies you'll have to scrape off the roof of your brain.

NYTB in the D-Lounge takes place Monday, October 25th at 7:30pm it the D-Lounge at the Daryl Roth Theater (101 East 15th Street at Union Square East). There is a $10 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

For more information on NYTB, visit: www.NYTheatreBarn.org.

Under the direction of Joe Barros (Producing Artistic Director) and Reed Prescott (Executive Director), New York Theatre Barn is a not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to the investigation, development, and advancement of new evocative works, and strives to challenge the way in which new work is traditionally developed. Since its inception in 2007, NYTB introduced a monthly springboard event for emerging writers and performers (NYTB in the D-Lounge, NYTB at The Duplex), presented concerts and staged readings (including the musical Big Fat Cat with Bruce Vilanch and I Married Wyatt Earp with Tovah Feldshuh, directed by Tony-nominee Graciela Daniele) and produced fully realized productions (including Wood at NYMF with Tony Award winner Cady Huffman). Other productions include the musical parody Hey, You Know What Movie Would Make a Good Musical? at the Julia Miles Theatre and Bridget Bailey's one-woman play Child of Hungry Times, winner of Outstanding Production of a Solo Show (Planet Connections Theatre Festival). NYTB has grown into a vital force in the New York theatre scene where it has been a launching ground for challenging new work including Adam Gwon's Ordinary Days, Cait Doyle's MAC Award winning Hot Mess in Manhattan, Katie Thompson's R.R.R.E.D. and Bobby Cronin's The Beaten Path (formerly B.R.A.T.T. Camp). New York Theatre Barn is currently developing an original commission-Speargrove Presents, a new musical based on actual events surrounding a conservative Texas High School's planned production of the musical Rent. NYTB is a member of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre.
