Stephanie J. Block and Destan Owens will be joining David
Burnham as special guest stars for his CD Launch Celebration concert, Sunday
October 7 at 9:30PM, at Manhattan's
Metropolitan Room for one performance only.
Longtime friends and co-workers, Stephanie J. Block and
David will sing a duet from Wicked,
the show in which she toured as Elphaba (2006 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding
Lead Actress). Stephanie joins the
Broadway cast of the show as Elphaba on October 9.
Both Stephanie and David were involved in the creation of Wicked – originating the roles of
Elphaba and Fiyero in the pre-Broadway Los
Angeles workshops.
In addition, Stephanie has starred on Broadway in the title
role of The Pirate Queen, as Liza
Minnelli in The Boy from Oz, and has
won awards around the country in such shows as Funny Girl, Crazy for You,
Oliver! and Bells are Ringing. She
recently starred in pre-Broadway workshops of Bye Bye Birdie for the Roundabout and Nine to Five, the Dolly-Parton composed musical based on the
successful film.
Destan Owens, who duets with Burnham on David's solo CD, has
appeared on Broadway in Rent, Chicago (Billy Flynn), and Smokey Joe's Cafe. He has toured in Three Mo Tenors, The Who's
Tommy, and as Billy Flynn in the first national tour of Chicago. He also appeared in Michael Jackson's musical
Sisterella and Debbie Allen's Souls Possessed. Destan can currently be seen on "30
Rock" and in the just-released Beatles-inspired film Across the Universe.
David Burnham is returning to New York after a year of touring as Fabrizio
in the national tour of The Light in the
Piazza (Washington DC 2007 Helen Hayes Best Actor Award, Los Angeles Best
Actor Garland Award). He also played the
role over 60 times on Broadway in the original Lincoln Center
cast.
His other leading roles have included Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Assassins, Pirates of Penzance,
Children of Eden, and many others.
Directed by Ken Sawyer and with Christopher Denny as musical
director, Burnham's "CD Release Celebration" concert will highlight
selections from his new solo CD "David Burnham" on the LML Music
label as well as other contemporary theater music and standards.
