It has been far too long since you were last in Adelaide, back in 2006, so it is great to have you here for this year's Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Your performances this year showcase your latest CD, the autobiographical, Stockport to Memphis, and have the same title. Without giving too many of the details away, what can the audience expect from your show?

Well, some stories, some very different versions of songs, and some of my own material.

The CD has eight songs, by a diverse group of people, and five of your own songs. With all of the songs that you have performed in your career, how did you select those eight?

I make shortlists of hundreds of songs then I wheedle them down slowly until the ones that are right sort of float to the top of the list. It's a sweet process and I love it very much, that beginning of tracking the songs.....

Your Musical Director, Simon Wallace, is here with you, but have you brought other British musicians, too. Who will we be seeing backing you? Is it the same group of musicians who play on the CD?

No only Simon is with me on this trip - all the work is always done at the top with me and Simon or me and Jenny Carr. On this album it's largely Simon and myself, so I know that he's the best person to represent the arrangements because we sweated blood over them, together, and probably in near equal amounts!

And, changing the subject completely, what have you been doing around Adelaide since you arrived and what things have impressed you about our city?

I've been to Thai restaurants - lovely - I've been to the Adelaide Central Market - wonderful with all that great fruit and veg. and superb things - I've walked the city, I've run down the River Torrens on that lovely park walk, I've made friends with a lot of the other acts here - it's been pretty busy! I'm having a ball!
