Anastasia Barzee To Perform Material From Solo Debit at Birdland, 3/5

Anastasia-Barzee-To-Perform-Material-From-Solo-Debit-at-Birdland-35-20010101

Anastasia Barzee, the Broadway, film and television actress, will perform material from her first solo album, "The Dimming of the Day," March 5, 7:00 p.m. at Birdland. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.birdlandjazz.com or by phone at 212.581.3080. Birdland is located at 315 West 44th Street (b/w 8th & 9th Ave).

Barzee will perform with band members Gil Goldstein, who arranged The Dimming of the Day and produced Esperanza Spalding’s most recent album; Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan, Rosanne Cash, Lyle Lovett), who plays guitar on the album; Kendrick Scott (Terence Blanchard, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter), also featured on the album on drums; and Vicente Archer (Terence Blanchard, The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis) on bass.

"The Dimming of the Day" includes Barzee's interpretations of Kate Bush, Paul Simon, Rufus Wainwright, Richard Thompson, Randy Newman and others. Grammy nominee Matt Pierson produced the album and Grammy winner Gil Goldstein arranged the album.

Barzee studied at the University of Miami School of Music and played in bands across Florida before moving to New York and beginning her career as an actress. Prior to this solo debut, Barzee was featured on the recording "Irving Berlin’s White Christmas: The Musical" in the role made famous by Rosemary Clooney, as well as on cast recordings of "Napoleon" and "Sunset Boulevard." On stage, she has starred on Broadway in numerous musicals and plays, including the Tony Award-winning production of "Henry IV" Parts 1 and 2 as Lady Mortimer opposite Kevin Kline; the Tony Award-winning "Urinetown" as Hope; "Jekyll & Hyde" as Emma; and "Miss Saigon" as the American wife Ellen. Barzee created and starred as Josephine in the West End production of "Napoleon," directed by Francesca Zambello. Stateside, she created the role of Betty Haynes in the Musical "White Christmas," directed by Walter Bobbie. Also with Bobbie directing, Barzee played Lorna Moon in the musical "Golden Boy" for New York’s City Center Encores series. Among her many regional credits are The Kennedy Center’s Sondheim celebration production of "Merrily We Roll Along." She will also be singing at the Kennedy Center’s reunion concert this summer.

Barzee has guest starred on numerous shows including "Blue Bloods," opposite Tom Selleck, "Law & Order: SVU," "White Collar," "Law & Order," "Murder She Wrote," with Angela Lansbury, "Get a Life" (as Chris Elliot’s girlfriend) and "Herman’s Head" (as Herman’s girlfriend).  She appeared in the 2010 Doug Liman feature "Fair Game" opposite Sean Penn.
